"Fresh local ingredients. Traditional Szechuan cooking. Hot and flavorsome."

Picture
Eating food is universal but what and how to eat is cultural and regional. Based on my family's cooking tradition our food is called Chilli Daddy - Dr Weng’s Szechuan Gourmet.  I am Dr Weng and my son Rory named me "Chilli Daddy".

What makes Chilli Daddy so special?

● The food’s origin: I learnt all the recipes and cooking skills from my mother, Jade Chen (1933) back in Szechuan, China in the 1980s-90s. My mother learnt these traditional cooking methods from her mother in the 1940s-50s, Mrs Zhang-Li (1915-1965). I am very proud that I have mastered my grandmother’s traditional recipes and special cooking methods. Sadly, fast food chains are actively targeting the Chinese younger generations and the Szechuan food traditions of thousands of individual families are endangered and are dwindling at an ever faster pace.

● Hundreds of years of original and unique family tradition go into making this food. This is totally different to the values of fast food chains.

● You cannot find these recipes in ordinary Chinese takeaway shops or Chinese restaurants.  The common feature of the food cooked by three generations of my family (my grandmother, mother and I) represents the speciality of Szechuan cuisine: being spicy and tasty.

● The ingredients are fresh, local, simple, healthy and environmentally friendly.

● Most of our food is vegetarian food, without excluding meat eaters.
